Substation J, Spencer St Melbourne CBD

Rooftop Remedial Waterproofing

Project Details

Paul Evans from Findlay-Evans Waterproofing & Liquid Rubber Melbourne shares a case study of a complex industrial roof repair on a historic power station in the city. The team was brought in by a builder to rectify a badly deteriorated roof that was leaking into the power station, and they successfully developed a system to address the unique challenges of the project.

Location:
Substation J, Spencer St Melbourne CBD 3000

Problem:
Badly deteriorated roof with leaks into the power station.

Solution Approach:
Identified five separate roof areas over the whole span of the building, each requiring individual treatment.
Pumped grout to the roof from the ground floor, filling all voids and cracks to create a new surface.
Sprayed Liquid Rubber membrane over the surface, building it up to a 1.5mm thickness, with specialized treatment in certain areas.
Used dark grey rubber to reflect heat and assisted builders with stairs joining into various levels.

Result:
Successful completion with a very satisfied client, effectively resolving the roof's deterioration and leakage issues.
